The Whole Duty Of Man

Ecclesiastes 12:13: Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.

Matthew 4:10: Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

Revelation 22:8: And I John saw these things, and heard them. And when I had heard and seen, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel which shewed me these things. 9 Then saith he unto me, See thou do it not: for I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren the prophets, and of them which keep the sayings of this book: worship God.

I have been taught a number of times by Bible teachers that the word worship comes from two root words, worth-ship. God has worth. He is worth something. He is worth everything. He is worth trusting. He is worth obeying. His authority and power over you are worth having. Do you want God to be in charge of you or do you want to be in charge of yourself? Do you serve God, yourself or someone or something else? Do you worship God or yourself or someone or something else? You will serve the one that you worship. Worshipping God means you believe and demonstrate by your words and actions that He is worth obeying. We are all servants of God or servants of someone or something else. We are all either servants of God or rebels against Him.

Here are some Biblical definitions of the word worship: To kiss, like a dog licking his master*s hand, to fawn or crouch to, to prostrate oneself in homage, do reverence to and adore.

Have you ever believed that Jesus was worth receiving as your Saviour and the Lord over your life? Is His love worth receiving? Are His forgiveness and guidance worth having? Many want Him to be their Saviour in this life and Lord only over their eternity. It doesn*t work that way. The first act of worship is to personally receive Him as Saviour and His power and authority over you and your life. Receiving Jesus should be the beginning of a lifetime of loving, worshipping and serving Him and He will help you every step of the way. Do you know what is your whole duty? Love, fear, faith, service and obedience to Him are evidence of worship. He is worth loving, fearing, trusting, serving and obeying. Not doing those things is an insult to Him and His worthiness.

It is amazing that He thought we were worth dying for. Do we worship Him or are we disobedient rebels?
